 Welcome to Kindred Spirits

Kindred Spirits Greyhound Adoption Inc.'s mission is to rescue greyhounds from the racing industry once their careers are over and to find responsible forever homes in the Central New York area for sighthounds in need.

Each year the greyhound racing industry breeds many more greyhounds than it can find homesneo-helen for upon their retirement.  This over breeding causes thousands of these gentle, trusting animals to be put to death every year when they are no longer useful to their "sport".  Industry estimates state that out of 26,000 greyhounds registered to race each year, as many as 20,000 are placed in adoptive homes and many as 4,000 return to the breeding farm as "pets" or to be used for for breeding purposes. (Statistics courtesy of American Greyhound Council)  What the industry statistics don't explain is what happens to the other 2,000, or how many greyhounds each year are bred but isisnever make it as far as racing registration databases.  According to the Greyhound Protection League as many as 10,000 - 20,000 of these "gentle giants" perish each year - some before their racing careers ever start

Kindred Spirits Greyhound Adoption is one of thousands of independent greyhound adoption groups that exist across the country trying to bring that number down to zero.  We are a small, volunteer based, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit and, like many other independent adoption groups, rely on your generous donations to achieve our goals.  We are dedicated not only to finding good homes for these retired racers, but to educating the public on the plight of the racing greyhound and the fact that these affectionate gentle animals make wonderful pets.

Sydney

This world traveler is a very loveable affectionate boy who was born in Australia but spent most of his racing days in Guam.  Sydney takes his retirement very seriously but don't let the premature gray fool you.  He may be 8,  but Sydeny does not consider himself a senior and would love to spend his non sleeping moments taking long walks with his favorite person.  He gets along well with other dogs but would do best in a home with no small animals.  Once you meet this handsome boy you can't help but fall in love with him.

The petroglyph "Pueblo Pair" is a sign of  family, harmony, strength and happiness.  It represents power and growth among a tribe or clan.  The addition of a greyhound and heart in our logo symbolizes unconditional love.
