Adoptable Greyhounds
Kindred
Spirits adoptable greyhounds are fostered prior to re-homing.
The first two weeks of the adoption process spent in your home
are considered a trial period. If for any reason during
these 2 weeks, you or Kindred Spirits Greyhound Adoption feel
that the adoption is not a good match, the dog may be returned
and your adoption fee will be returned to you. Our
adoption fee is $250.00 which includes spay/neuter, Heartworm
Test, Dental, DHLPP, Bordetella and 1 year Rabies vaccines,
worming and a freshly bathed greyhound!!
The first step in our
adoption process is to do your research. Read the
information on our website, visit our links, and learn all that
you can about retired racers. After you have educated
yourself a little bit, then please print out one of our
applications and send it to us.
Application
After we receive it, review it, and call your references, we
will get in touch with you to set up a date for a home visit.
At the time of the home visit we may (or may not depending on
the availability of the foster family) bring along the dog that
we feel will best fit your family.

We have a
special needs little girl who is being fostered at Judi
Kaufman's in York, PA.
http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/21873731
CL Tricky Girl (Tricksy) is having an issue
with having to pee every 4-5 hours. This is not from a UTI. We
don't know if it's behavioral, because she drinks too much water
or if her bladder is just so small, she can't hold it.
Anyway, we are looking for an adopter who has a doggy door for
Tricksy. Because she has this special need, we are wondering if
you'd be willing to post this girl on your website. If you find
the right home for her, we'll make arrangements to get her to
you!
She was fostered with 8 cats in Florida and Judi has
3 cats at her house. You can rest assured that she is cat safe!
Thanks for working together with us to find the right home
for Tricksy!

Major
This is 6 year
old Major. He came back to Kindred Spirits after
residing in a home for 2 years when his owner
experienced financial difficulties and had to take
on several jobs – leaving her no time to care for
him. Major is a bit on the shy side but once he
opens up to you has the most sweet, loving and quiet
disposition. Once he gets to know you he will let
his playful side show through and will amuse you
with his toy tossing antics. He loves his stuffed
toys and likes even more for you to toss them for
him. He walks very well on a leash but is not a
marathon kind of guy – short leash walks are enough
to keep him happy. He really likes his people and
wants someone to love him – something that is very
easy to do once you get to know him. Even though he
is very quiet and sweet and gets along very well
with other medium to large dogs, he does have a high
prey drive – especially outside – and would do best
in a house with no cats or small dogs. He is a bit
afraid of stairs and is working on overcoming this
but for now we would recommend he go to a home where
he doesn’t have to climb a lot of them every day.
Overall he is just a sweet older gentleman.

Maddie

Maddie is a sweet 5
year old who was returned to us (due to no fault of
her own) after having lived in a home for 3 years.
Unfortunately she has come back to us with medical
issues and will not be available for adoption until
they are diagnosed and resolved.

Manny
Manny is coming out of his shell and
proving to be one of those goofy goofy
greyhound boys! He was heartworm
positive when we got him and is doing
well with his treatment but won’t be
available for adoption until he has
completed it and been given the Dr’s ok
to return to normal activity. Manny
would do well in just about any home.
He is good with kids and other animals
(any sized) but Manny’s real love is
people. He would be ok in a home with
other dogs or without as he gets along
fine with the dogs in his foster home
but basically ignores them so he can be
doted on by the people in the home. He
also LOVES water so this boy will have
to have his own kiddy pool. Overall
he’s just a really sweet sensitive guy.
In
this picture he is lounging on the sofa
in his x-pen as he is on restricted
activity until his heartworms are gone.
Update 5/14
Manny has been treated for his
heartworm infection and has been
cleared for adoption! He is sooo
happy to be playing and exercising
again. He loves to play ball and
will even retrieve a tennis ball
when it is thrown to him and enjoys
doing this for as long as you will
throw it to him – quite a feat for a
breed known for their couch potato-ness.
He is rather exuberant now that he
is feeling better so, while he is
friendly with everyone and just
loves his people, we feel that he
will do best in a home with older
children. He does well with other
animals – cats as well – but would
probably be just fine as an only dog
– that way he can get ALL of your
attention!

Lucy
Lucy is still recovering from Heartworm
treatment but should soon be cleared by the vet
to resume normal activities and will be looking
for her forever home. She is a timid girl when
she first meets people she doesn’t know but
warms up quickly. She loves toys and can’t wait
for the vet to give her the ok to run and play
in the yard. Lucy is a smart little girl who,
while pretty quiet in the house, has a sassy
impish side as well. She lives with a Chihuahua
and cats and does well with them but small dogs
with high pitched barking and/or neurotic
behavior trigger her greyhound prey drive and we
feel she would do better in a home without small
animals. She just loves people once she gets
over her initial timidness and wants to spend as
much time with you as she can. She is very
sweet and listens well and is going to make
someone a wonderful pet.

Style/Stanley
Style is a
very small red male, 64 pounds and just
3 years old this month. He can be a bit
shy at first (like for a DAY), until, he
gets to know you and then is as friendly
as anyone! He tested cat friendly,
didn't care at all about the cat. And,
he gets along very well with other dogs,
always taking the back seat. He is
sweet, mellow and very low key. Style
walks great on a leash and will do his
business on lead, too. He'd probably be
happiest in a home with another dog to
follow around. Style will make an easy
addition to just about any family.

Champs
Champs came to us after being dumped at a
shelter in NY City. He is just now
coming out of his shell and is going to
be a wonderful pet for someone. Champ
needs to go to an experienced home with
people who will give him time to learn
to trust them. He needs a home with no
children but does well with other dogs.
Once he settles in he is affectionate
and easygoing. He would make a great
second greyhound for someone out there.
Anyone looking to chip?
From
Champs' Foster Mom:
Champs
is a special boy. Once he trusts
you, he becomes a happy dog and
comes out of his shell. He loves,
loves his walks, and after he's done
with a 2-miler, he wants to go for
another. He just learned to bark, so
you know when he wants something. He
has a fabulously long white-tipped
tail that either swings back and
forth, or whirls around when he's
excited. He also lives to eat. He
typically doesn't get up on
furniture, but on the rare occasions
he does, he does so backwards with
his feet against the pillows and his
back facing the room. He spends a
lot of time on his slumber ball, and
he does well in the crate, esp. when
he knows he's going to get a kong
with frozen peanut butter and
kibble. He's an early riser and
knows his schedule (and doesn't let
you stray from it), so he'd do well
with someone who's active (such as a
runner) and has a routine. He is
high prey and spends a lot of time
in the backyard being teased by the
neighbor's cat on the other side of
the fence. He hasn't been around any
other dogs but the ones in my house,
and if they get in his space, they
know it.
Champs
still gets stressed out under
certain conditions and will need to
go to a home with good structure and
routine – preferably with someone
who has owned greyhounds or who has
experience with special needs dogs
who can build a trusting lasting
relationship with him.

We
thought we had this little girl placed, but her
new people did not know how to handle their old
established dog continually growling at her and
they were afraid a fight would break out. So, as
much as it broke their hearts, Kali was
returned.
http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/22164292
She is being fostered in
Columbia, MD, just south of Baltimore with Cindy
and Art Patterson (email above if you want to
write to Cindy with any questions). Kali's not
cat friendly, but she gets along great with her
lab retriever foster brother. They even share a
crate to nap! She is a total sweetheart and
she'll do her business on a leash.

Melvin/Marvin
Marvin is a very outgoing guy who is recovering from a broken leg suffered
while racing. He is a big boy
who is full of exuberance and
love who is just waiting for the
right family to come along. He
needs to take it easy on the leg
for a few more months but will
then be one of those retired
greyhounds who loves to do a few
laps around a fenced in year.
He loves stuffed toys and has
been known to hoard piles of
them in his crate. Marvin is an
easy guy to love.
Sweet Marvin has been waiting for a
long time for the perfect home to
come along. He tried living with a
nervous sheltie but it didn’t work
out when the little dog wouldn’t
give him any space and he tired of
its constant attention. He does
very well with the small dogs in his
foster home but does seem to want to
chase the cat and being that he’s
such a big guy and could hurt the
cat even without meaning to, we feel
that he would do better in a home
with no cats. He is such a people
dog that he would also probably do
well as an only dog. The children in
his foster home just adore him! In
a multi dog home he likes to be king
so a home with more laid back dogs
would be best. Most of the time
though Marvin just prefers a home
with a couch, a good yard to run in,
plenty of toys and a person to love
him! Could you be that person?
